British Gas: +15% on Gas and Electricity Market Tracker tariff rates

Effective date: Tuesday, June 3rd 2008

In a sign of what is to come later this summer, British Gas increased the price of gas and electricity for its Market Tracker tariff by approximately 15%. The tariff is designed to track the wholesale gas of price and electricity and pass on any price increases or price falls above GBP 5.

The current increase is on top of a 5% increase added last quarter.

As British Gas currently has 2,500 customers on this tariff, the significance of the price increase is that it heralds the likely size of the price increases that most UK energy consumers should expect in the coming months.
